Why bills go down

A hospital bill is not a set price.

People think a bill is a bill. It is not. Here is the truth about almost every one of them.

The hospital picked the price.

Hospitals make up their own prices. Insurance companies never pay those prices. They pay way less, because they negotiate. If you got handed the full price, you got the worst deal in the building.

Bills have mistakes in them.

You can get billed for more care than you actually got. You can get charged for a room you were never in. You can get charged full price for a doctor your insurance should have covered. It happens all the time, and you cannot spot it without the full breakdown.

They would rather take less than nothing.

Chasing you for money costs the hospital money. They will often take less to be done with it. Hospitals also have programs that lower or wipe out bills for people who cannot pay. Most people never ask.

Who does the work

You will not have to call anybody.

No hold music. No getting transferred five times. No arguing with someone who says to call back tomorrow. We do all of that.

What you do

Two things.

  • Send us the bill.
  • Say yes or no to whatever we get you.

That is it. We will ask you a few easy questions and have you sign one page so we can talk to the hospital for you.

What we do

Everything else.

  • Get the full breakdown of your bill. Most people never see it.
  • Check every charge against the care you actually got.
  • Compare what they charged you to what the same care costs everywhere else.
  • Find any help you qualify for, and any coverage that should have paid.
  • Call them, wait on hold, and keep pushing until we get an answer.
  • Get it in writing.

You are not alone in this

Millions of people are stuck with these bills.

4 in 10adults in this country owe money on health care bills.
1 in 8of them owes more than $10,000.
Almost 1 in 5think they will never pay it off.
6 in 10have cut back on food and other basics to keep up.

How it works

Four steps. The first one is free.

1

Send the bill

Fill out the short form below. We will send you a safe link to send us the bill. No credit card, no commitment.

2

We look at it

We go through it and tell you straight what we found, what we think we can get taken off, and what to expect.

3

We go get it

We deal with the hospital and the insurance company. You stay out of it. We keep you posted.

4

You decide

Nothing gets agreed to unless you say yes. You see the final number in writing first.

What it costs

If we do not save you money, you pay us nothing.

You should not have to risk money you do not have to find out if your bill can come down.

Here is the whole deal.

  • Looking at your bill is free. Every time. We tell you what we found either way.
  • If nothing comes off, you owe us $0. No hourly charge. No fee to sign up.
  • If we lower it, we keep [ set your % ] of what we saved you. You keep the rest.
  • You never pay anything up front.

Send it anyway

You probably think it is too late. It usually is not.

“It already went to collections.”

Send it. Collection accounts get settled for less all the time. And whatever was wrong with the bill in the first place is still wrong.

“I already paid it.”

Send it. If you were overcharged, you may be owed money back. That happens more than people think.

“They will be mad at me.”

They will not even talk to you. They talk to us. Hospitals deal with this every single day. Your care and your doctor are not at risk.

Do you run a business?

Your workers are hiding these bills from you.

Nobody walks into the office and says a hospital bill is going to collections. They just stop taking their medicine, skip the follow-up visit, or take out a loan. You end up paying for it later anyway.

  • Offer it to your employees at no cost to them or to you.
  • Nothing changes about your health plan. No setup, no software.
  • If you pay your own claims, a corrected bill puts money back in your plan.
  • We have worked with employers for 19 years. We will explain it to your people in plain English.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is this legal?

Yes. A hospital is a business, and businesses settle bills for less every single day. Asking for a full breakdown, disputing a charge, appealing an insurance decision, applying for hospital help programs. These are all normal, everyday things that anyone is allowed to do.

What kind of bills can you help with?

Hospital and emergency room bills. Surgery. X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. Lab work. Specialist and anesthesia bills. Ambulance rides. Whatever you still owe after insurance paid. Very small bills are usually not worth it, and we will tell you that up front.

Will this hurt my credit?

No. Working on a bill does not hurt your credit. Letting an unpaid bill sit for a long time is what hurts it, so dealing with it now helps. We are not a credit repair company and we cannot remove things from your credit report.

Do I have to stop paying while you work on it?

No. Do not stop paying anything until we talk. If you are already on a payment plan, keep it going. Figuring out what to do about payments is part of what we look at.

How long does it take?

Looking at your bill is fast. Getting it lowered depends on the hospital and the size of the bill. Some take a couple weeks. Some take a few months. We will tell you where things stand instead of leaving you wondering.

Do you need my medical records?

Sometimes. To prove a charge does not match the care you got, we need the record that shows what happened. You decide, and you sign a form first. We only use it for your bill.

What if I have insurance and this is just my deductible?

Send it anyway. A bill can still be wrong even when your insurance did everything right. And sometimes insurance handles a claim wrong in a way that looks totally normal on the paper you got.
